YORK’S Chocolate Story has been recognised for its educational offering, following a visit from a renowned heritage-focussed body in April.

The attraction has received a Sandford Award, which goes to heritage sites with the most impressive educational offerings.

Since opening in 2012, York’s Chocolate Story has developed five educational packages covering a different topic and based on the national curriculum.

Education executive Heidi Davies said: “We are so proud to have won this award. There is so much to learn and discover about chocolate, from the science of how it sets, to the history of its discovery in Central America.”

Donald Henson, who judged the award said that while chocolate enthuses most people, York’s Chocolate Story “provides more” and is an experience pupils will remember and teachers can follow up back in the classroom.
