A CARE home looking after people with dementia has been rated Inadequate by Care Quality Commission inspectors.

Hambleton Grange, in Station Road, Thirsk, was found to only have an interim manager and insufficient staffing levels, which had an impact on all aspects of the service.

People’s health and safety was at potential risk of harm because, according to inspectors, the assessment, monitoring and mitigation of risk towards people who used the service was not robust.

Inspectors also found cleanliness and infection control was not good enough. They found odours in one bedroom and saw dirty laundry in another, while relatives said they had concerns about hygiene.

The care home was placed in Special Measures and will be kept under review, with another inspection taking place in six months.
