FIRE crews revisited the site of a major tyre fire yesterday.

North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service sent six crews at the height of the blaze, which took place in Elvington on Monday afternoon.

A spokesman for the fire service said the cause of the fire - which involved a very large mound of tyres in open land - had not yet been determined, but some hotspots remained into Monday night, with flames visible at about midnight.

He said nobody was injured in the fire, and crews will continue to monitor the scene.
