FREE-SCORING Darlington will arrive at York City having netted in every match they have played since last November.

The north-east outfit last failed to hit the target in a 2-0 defeat at Telford and have breached the opposition defence in each of their last 28 contests.

Ten goals in their opening three games means Darlo are already this term’s leading marksmen, along with Brackley - two of three teams still boasting 100 per cent records. Southport are the other.

Goals have been spread through the team, meanwhile, with six different marksmen, although ex-Gateshead attacker Josh Gillies and one-time Blackpool midfielder David Ferguson lead the way on three apiece.

Darlo’s options up front have led to the departure of Nathan Cartman - a regular on the scoresheet since his January 2015 move from Harrogate Railway.

He has been loaned to Farsley, while Scott Fenwick, released from Bootham Crescent over the summer, has been limited to five minutes this term with James Caton and Mark Beck first-choice strikers and Harvey Saunders also waiting in the wings.

Another ex-Minsterman Phil Turnbull is a key performer in the Darlo midfield and former trialist Adam Bartlett keeps goal for tonight’s visitors, who have fielded the same starting XI for each of their opening three games.

Having finished fifth last season under former Sunderland midfielder Martin Gray, Darlo were refused permission to take part in the play-offs as their ground was 250 covered seats short of the required number for National League football.

Following their faultless start to the campaign, encompassing a 2-0 victory at title favourites Salford before back-to-back home wins against Gainsborough (4-3) and Alfreton (4-1), Darlington have won seven of their last eight matches, stretching back to the end of last season.

The only blemish in that sequence was a 5-1 final-day thrashing at Salford.
