PEOPLE had a chance to ask about family military heirlooms, such as medals and photographs of relatives who served in the forces, when the York Army Museum held a military memorabilia roadshow on Saturday.

The museum in Tower Street, which receives daily inquiries from the public on such matters, had experts from the museum team, National Army Museum, Green Howards Museum, Leeds Armouries and Explore York Archives on hand to answer questions.

Lending a personal touch to the event were some of York’s surviving Normandy veterans and veterans from Yorkshire regiments, who spoke about their experiences.

Outside, a display was mounted by the East Yorkshire Regiment World War Two living history group and the Haworth Home Guard, and the Minster FM gazebo provided free goody bags and crafts for children.
