BARBARA Dickson is adding a second show at Pocklington Arts Centre this autumn and will now play there on September 21 and 22.

In these special acoustic performances, the Scottish folk singer and her keyboards player, Nick Holland, will explore her catalogue of songs at "an intimate level". The pair will let the words and melodies take centre stage as they perform a range of material drawing on Barbara’s folk roots, contemporary greats and some of her classic hits.

Emerging from the Scottish folk scene of the late-1960s, Dickson then enjoyed mainstream chart success with Answer Me, Another Suitcase In Another Hall, Caravan and the million-selling number one single, I Know Him So Well, her 1984 duet with Elaine Paige.

As Scotland’s best-selling female album artist, Dickson has earned six platinum, 11 gold and silver silver albums. Her stage career has included the roles of the original Mrs Johnstone in Willy Russell’s long-running musical Blood Brothers and as Viv Nicholson in Spend Spend Spend, both bringing her an Olivier award for Best Actress. She was awarded an O.B.E. in 2002 for her services to music and drama.

Nick Holland joined Dickson’s touring band in the mid 2000s, playing keyboards and adding vocals on her Full Circle album, the first to feature the style of music she performs today. They now work as a duo, wherein Dickson plays guitar and piano and Holland plays keyboards, adding harmonies to her vocals.

They have performed this way at cathedrals, festivals and theatres, developing a rapport with each other and the audience. "It’s a different experience to working with the bigger band, but just as enjoyable and gives the music breathing space," says Dickson.

Tickets for these 8pm Pocklington concerts cost £32 on 01759 301547 or at pocklingtonartscentre.co.uk
