A UNIQUE social enterprise in Ampleforth which trains and supports adults with autism is seeking a new chocolatier.

Ampleforth Plus - a brainchild of the Autism Plus group - is based in a series of former farm buildings near Ampleforth Abbey.

The business creates bespoke chocolate products including bars, boxes, callets, handmade truffles and 'novelties' like chocolate animals, all within a "social and therapeutic" setting.

The Autism Plus charity was founded 30 years ago by a group of parents of adult children, all diagnosed with an autism spectrum condition.

After the children left school, the parents found there was no service to support them through adulthood or help them into work - so they set up the charity.

The chocolate manufacturing unit at Ampleforth was launched in June 2015.

Janet Jay, commercial manager at Ampleforth Plus, said: "This is a unique and exciting position for someone keen to take an active involvement in the growth of our innovative enterprise.

"It's a rare opportunity for the right person to use their creative flair to influence product development - whilst gaining immense satisfaction from training and supporting adults with learning difficulties."

The job advert for the new senior chocolatier role describes the job as "working alongside our existing senior chocolatier, with our service users and with the commercial manager of all of the social enterprises on site, in maintaining the successful operation and development of the chocolate enterprise."
