PEOPLE in York had chance to try a whole range of disability sports today, with a special event at Energise sports centre in Acomb.

"Celebrating Ability" welcomed disabled sports enthusiasts for its seventh festival. and gave people chance to try everything from football to cycling, tennis, swimming and powerchair football, thanks to local sports clubs who teamed up to help out with the day.

This year saw new sports added to the mix as well - with judo and mixed ability rugby on offer for the first time.

City of York Council arranges the event and Cllr Nigel Ayre, executive member for culture, leisure and tourism said: “The celebrating ability event is a very popular part of our sporting programme highlighting the year-round opportunities available within the city's disability sports sector.”
