KNITTERS have taken over Micklegate, but their reign on the city centre street has only a few days remaining.

Traders on the street launched a "yarn storm" earlier this month to bring some quirky brightness to their surroundings, but the knitted decorations are scheduled to disappear at the end of this month.

Shelagh Garside, part of the Micklegate Business Initiative which is behind the idea, said the yarn storm had been very popular and could have helped their street become the only one in the city to see its footfall increase.

The month has also seen 10 year old fundraiser Daisy Mitcham-Harding raise more than £150 for charity by selling her own handmade pom-poms from the Blossom Street Gallery.
