THE 1967 law which, 50 years ago, began the process of decriminalising homosexual acts in the UK was opposed by the then Archbishop of Canterbury Michael Ramsey.
Half a century on, things have changed. In a joint statement released to mark the anniversary of the 1967 Act, the Archbishops of York and Canterbury said it was a day when ‘the Church in this land should be conscious of the need to turn away from condemnation of people as its first response’.
Hallelujah to that. It’s just a shame it has taken the church so long to see the light.
