A MAN was freed from a car and taken to hospital after a crash in North Yorkshire this morning.

Emergency services were called to the collision, involving a Honda Civic and a Volkswagen Passat, on the A19 near Eggborough Power Station, at about 6.10am.

Fire crews cut the roof off the Volkswagen to free a man.

"He has been taken to hospital with neck and back injuries," a spokeswoman for North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said.

She added: "There were two females in the other vehicle. They were out of the vehicle on arrival. They are not injured."

The road was temporarily closed to allow emergency services to deal with the crash.
