CHOCOLATE orange met afternoon tea when scones flavoured with the treat were served at a birthday party at the former home of the Terry family.

It has been five years since the National Trust opened Goddards House and Garden in Tadcaster Road to the public.

Before that only the gardens were open to visitors.

To celebrate the anniversary the chocolate orange scones were served on the terrace of the 1920s arts and crafts home.

This year the National Trust completed conservation work and rewiring and opened new rooms to tell the story of the family life behind 90 years at Goddards and the 250 year history of Terry's of York.

Outside the four-acre garden has been separated into rooms through planting to reflect the period.

There is a new orchard in the paddock with fruit trees and the promise of a wildlife haven.

Visitors last Friday also enjoyed chocolate tastings and a chocolate orange cake and talks about the Terry legacy.
