THE legendary Savoy Family Cajun Band complete a hat-trick of shows at the North York Moors setting of The Band Room, Low Mill, Farndale, near Kirkbymoorside tonight (July 24).

"Where else would you want to see the Savoy Family Cajun Band than at Marc Savoy’s 'favourite venue in all the world'?" asks Band Room promoter Nigel Burnham.

"They swept North Yorkshire off its feet when they played here in 2011 and 2012 – has it really been five years? – and will return to a hero’s welcome on Monday, when the 2017 touring permutation of the outfit from Eunice, Louisiana, features the full stellar line-up."

Accordion player Marc Savoy will be joined by wife Ann, on guitar, and sons Joel, on fiddle and guitar, and Wilson, on piano and fiddle. "Each one of them is a superstar of the Cajun genre," says Burnham.

The Savoys have played at Presidential inauguration ceremonies, the Newport Folk Festival, the JFK Center in Washington DC, the Queen Elizabeth Hall in London and at festivals all over North America, continental Europe and the wider world.

"So it was kind of inevitable they would one day play The Band Room and fall in love with the place," says Burnham. "Introductions are hardly necessary but individually and collectively the Savoy Family Cajun Band have links to Cajun greats Dennis McGee, Dewey Balfa, Michael Doucet, D. L. Menard and Steve Riley, as well as John Fogerty, Nick Lowe, T-Bone Burnett, et al.

"Ann is also celebrated for her revered all-woman band The Magnolia Sisters, and for Adieu False Heart, the classic Grammy-nominated 2006 album she recorded with Linda Ronstadt."

Tickets for tonight's 7.30pm concert are on sale at £17.50 at thebandroom.co.uk or on 01751 432900.
