AN organisation set up in memory of a York woman has funded a new £15,000 room for York Hospital.

Thanks to the The Nikki Waterhouse Trust, York Hospital’s children’s ward will soon be given a new, modern, sensory room, to help children from birth through to their teenage years.

The Trust was set up in February 2015 in memory of the 32-year-old estate agent who was murdered in York in October 2013, and the grant follows an application by the hospital to the Trust, which has also donated hundreds of pounds worth of equipment to facilities around North Yorkshire in Nikki’s memory.

Equipment and design of the new sensory room has been chosen by the hospital’s play team and clinical staff, so it can be used by children of all ages and with a range of medical conditions.

Andy Jennians, deputy manager for children’s services at the hospital, said: “A new sensory room will have a number of benefits for some of the hospitals most vulnerable patients and we are thrilled to receive the generous donation by The Nikki Waterhouse Trust to make this possible.” John Waterhouse, charity Trustee and Nikki’s father, said: “Nikki loved children and we feel that funding this project is a wonderful use of the money raised through many great fund-raising activities. We are proud that we can help and support some of the most vulnerable patients; the room will give children a place to feel safe and have fun during their hospital stay.”To support The Nikki Waterhouse Trust or find out more about its work, go to thenikkiwaterhousetrust.org or email enquiries@thenikkiwaterhousetrust.com
