YORK is the "only choice" for a new home for Channel 4, city representatives have said.

Councillors last night enthusiastically backed a motion calling for the city to make a serious bid to bring the broadcaster to the city. Conservative John Galvin said there was "only once choice" for the broadcaster, while Green councillors Dave Taylor praised the work the University of York has done on the bid.

Channel 4 would be a significant "anchor tenant" for the York Central brownfield site and would help attract extra inward investment, he added.
