A FAMILY fun day is being held in memory of a much-loved York boy, described as a “bundle of energy,” who died in his sleep.

Kenzie Hall was just three-years-old when he died on November 19 last year. He fell asleep but never woke up.

Now a fundraising event is being held in memory of Kenzie, who was a nursery pupil at Haxby Road Primary Academy.

It will take place on Saturday at York Hospital Sports and Social Club, in White Cross Road, off Haxby Road, from noon to 5pm, for families.

The event will continue at the same venue from 7pm to midnight mainly for adults, though children can also attend if they are accompanied by adults.

During the day, there will be a variety of attractions, including live music, a bouncy castle, face painting, games, barbecue, bar, and much more.

Funds raised from the event will go towards creating a memorial garden at Haxby Road Primary in tribute to Kenzie.

His dad David, who lives of Water Lane, in Clifton, said: “He was energetic and polite.

"He loved playing outside and inside.

“He was a typical little boy. He was always a good boy.”

Lyndsey Relf, one of the organisers of tomorrow’s fundraiser, has a daughter at Haxby Road Primary who knew Kenzie.

She said: “Myself and another set of parents said why don’t we speak to the school and see if we can raise money for a memorial garden, which they were planning on doing anyway.

“So we decided to do this event and raise as much money as we can.”

Haxby Road Primary’s outgoing head teacher Zoe Lightfoot said Kenzie was “a lovely little boy.”

“He was a bundle of energy, he was loved by all our staff and children,” she added.

“He loved being outside.

"We just felt in order to commemorate his time with us we would create a special garden of reflection in Kenzie’s name.”

She also said: “He had a big impact on everyone he met.

"He certainly won’t be forgotten.”

Entry to the fundraiser costs £3 for adults and £1.50 for children at the door.
