TEMPORARY traffic lights will be in place at a major York crossroads for several weeks.

City of York Council is replacing the lights at the junction of Heworth Road and Melrosegate from Monday (JULY 24).

Work is set to take place between 9.30am and 4pm each day, with work expected to loast until Wednesday, August 23.

A council spokesman said there would also be a change to the pedestrian crossing to provide nearside red and green man displays, and the crossing would also be widened and realigned following public feedback.

Buses will be diverted throughout the period of works, and the spokesman said any drivers using the roads should “expect some delays and plan their journey accordingly”.

The improvements are part of the council’s five-year traffic signal renewal programme, which was agreed in November 2015 and is set to cost £2.620m over six years, funded by the capital programme budget and the council’s Local Transport Plan budget.
