ORGANISERS of this year’s 110th Farndale Show have paid tribute to a former secretary of the show who died recently.

Lucy Tinsley, nee Jackson, was show secretary for 28 years. She stepped down in 2003, at which time she received a special presentation from then-president Elizabeth Castle to mark her long service.

Gill Little, the current show secretary, said: “In the secretary’s tent at the Farndale Show you might notice an empty chair.

“Lucy Tinsley, show secretary for more than 20 years, sadly passed away earlier this year.

"More recently she has been seen as the lady, ready with duster in hand, making sure every trophy was polished and looking its best ready for presentation.

“Organisers, friends and family know she will be watching on show day making sure everything runs smoothly as it should.

“Having given so much of her time to the show with true dedication and passion she will be deeply missed.”

Mrs Tinsley died at York Hospital, on May 5, aged 84. Her funeral was held at St Mary’s Church in Farndale, on May 19.

The Farndale Agricultural, Horticultural and Industrial show is regarded as one of the best small dales shows in the area, and attracts somewhere in the region of 3,000 visitors each year.

Organisers are currently putting the finishing touches to this year’s show, which takes place on August 28.

Schedules have also been published and include lots of new additions and classes this year.

These schedules are free and available from the usual outlets, including BATA Kirkbymoorside and Helmsley - or they can be downloaded from the Farndale Show website.

New to the show this year is the craft tent, which aims to showcase the skills of local crafting talent. There will also be the Commondale wool spinners, the ever-popular bale push and tug of war, a birds of prey display with Owl Adventures and the grandeur of the Clydesdale horses.

Closing date for all entries in Saturday, August 12.

The Farndale show will be taking place at the Showfield, Church Houses, Farndale, YO62 7LH.

Gates will open to exhibitors at 8am, and to the public from 9.30am.
