NEW figures have revealed the best and worst doctors surgeries in and around York, as voted for by patients.

The figures, released by the NHS as part of their annual GP patient survey, look at responses from patients at surgeries around the country and help show how satisfied people are.

Data released for the Vale of York Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG), showed most patients who responded were more than satisfied with their surgeries - when asked whether they would describe their experience of their GP surgery as 'good', the national target was 85 per cent.

The only practices to miss out on that target were South Milford Surgery, Millfield Surgery, Jorvik Gillygate Surgery, York Medical Group, Scott Road Medical Centre in Selby and Unity Health in Wenlock Terrace, which had the lowest rating at 78 per cent.

Those most likely to be described as 'good' were Terrington Surgery - the only to receive 100 per cent - Stillington Surgery - with 99 per cent - and Dalton Terrace Surgery and Pocklington Group Practice - both of whom had 97 per cent.

In terms of contacting their GP on the phone, the reactions were massively different, with Stillington and Terrington surgeries rated best, with 96 and 95 per cent respectively.

However, those viewed as worst by patients were Unity Health and Beech Trees Surgery, with 39 and 45 per cent respectively - both far lower than the target of 68 per cent.

Also missing the target for access by phone were Tadcaster Medical Centre, South Milford Surgery, Scott Road Medical Centre, Priory Medical Group, Jorvik Gillygate Practice and York Medical Group.

Patients said the most helpful receptionists could be found at Stillington, Terrington and Escrick surgeries, while the least helpful were at Tadcaster Medical Centre, Unity Health, Beech Tree Surgery and Scott Road Medical Centre.

Stillington and Terrington surgeries were also patients' favourites when it came to waiting times, with 96 and 85 per cent satisfaction ratings respectively, far above the 58 per cent target, while Scott Road Medical Centre placed last with 39 per cent.

However, when it came to patients deciding whether they had confidence in their GPs, everyone responded to the survey positively, with ratings on or around the 95 per cent target.
