LIFE-saving equipment had been provided at Malton store thanks to the fundraising efforts of staff.

At the beginning of the year staff at Morrisons decided to raise funds for a defibrillator for use by the local community.

Pam Friend, the store’s community champion, said: “Our defibrillator dream started a couple of years ago when a colleague’s husband suffered a cardiac arrest at home. Due to CPR and the use of a defibrillator shock, it is why he is here today to tell the tale.”

Pam said the staff had held cake sales in the store canteen, Easter-themed raffles, tombolas and buckets on the checkouts for collection.

“Father and son team Colin and Gary Hara agreed to be waxed and shaved, and with the help of sponsorship and donations on the day they managed to raise over £700,” she said. “By May we had raised just over £1,500 which is what we needed to purchase the defibrillator.”

Pam said Morrisons Malton would like to thank all colleagues for their hard work and to all our customers for their generous donations.”
