TWO men were arrested on Thursday night in connection with the attempted theft of parking meters from York streets.
Police were called around 9.15pm, after someone spotted a van crashing into a parking meter on Wigginton Road, and the occupants then allegedly loading it into the van.
Soon after a similar thing happened in Carlisle Street car park, and police were called to the scene where they arrested two suspects. They also found an angle grinder.
A 19-year-old man of no fixed address and a 22-year-old man from Doncaster were arrested and have been released while under investigation.
Inspector Lee Pointon said: “My thanks go to the vigilant members of public who called in with the information. It’s a classic example of how police are supported by the public who act as our eyes and ears.”
