WHEN campaigning for dualling of the outer ring road and A64, please remember pedestrians (The Press, July 8).

Two footpaths from New Earswick supposedly cross the ring road, one following Westfield Beck and the other at the end of the lane used by the farmer near All Saints Church, crossing to a lane leading to Landing Lane in Haxby.

Neither crossing can be used because of the ring road traffic. No doubt there are many more instances of unusable footpaths.

At the Clifton Moor roundabout nearest B&Q it always strikes as ridiculous that traffic from B&Q and surrounding shops has to go up to the roundabout on the ring road and round it in order to go to the other part of Clifton Moor.

Why can’t there be a mini roundabout near the B&Q entrance road?

There’s often a tailback of traffic going along the ring road giving priority to Clifton Moor users.

On another issue, that of New Earswick Primary School, the article does not explain how academy status would improve the school (The Press, July 8).

I believe Joseph Rowntree Housing Trust have always supported the school so maybe more help from that source (if available) would be a better idea than academy status.
