YORK City boss Gary Mills has revealed he is not actively seeking to make any more new additions before the start of the new National League North campaign.

The Minstermen currently boast a squad of 19 senior players, not including unwanted pair Luke Simpson and Ben Clappison, with Mills declaring himself satisfied with the current roster more than three weeks before his team’s opening league fixture at home to Telford on Saturday, August 5.

Mills will again run the rule over trialist trio Adam Porritt, Ben Gordan and Jaseem Sukhar during tonight’s pre-season home match with League One outfit Scunthorpe, kick off 7pm, but each hopeful will need to catch the eye against the Iron, with the City chief explaining: I’m not really looking to make more additions.

“The lads are doing well and I feel things are coming together nicely. I said I was looking to run with a small squad and I believe we’ve got the right players here at this moment in time.

“I don’t feel I need to be looking for any more, because we’ve got a good nucleus. The new players I’ve brought in, such as the likes of Theo Wharton, are getting to know how I work now and what I expect and are improving every day for me.

“We’ll be having another look at the trialists though and make a decision from there.”

City will continue to be without crocked trio Matt Fry, Aidan Connolly and Clovis Kamdjo for this evening’s contest.

Fry is having a scan to assess the extent of his knee problem, while Connolly is due to be out until October after calf surgery and Kamdjo is not expected to be back in training before November due to the cruciate knee damage he suffered last season.

Otherwise, City have no fresh fitness concerns with Mills looking forward to assessing how his new squad fares against a team that were challenging for a place in the Championship last season, losing to Millwall in the play-off semi-finals.

Graham Alexander’s men opened their pre-season programme with a 6-0 success at City’s National League North rivals North Ferriby at the weekend, with ex-Bootham Crescent favourite Neal Bishop, who turns 36 next month, set to feature for the visitors.

New signings Matt Gilks and Rory McArdle, recruited from Wigan and Bradford respectively over the summer, are also expected to get game time, along with last term’s top-scorer Josh Morris, Murray Wallace and Sam Mantom, who missed out due to injury at Ferriby.

“We will be facing stronger opposition and we’ll have to show what we’re about,” Mills reasoned. “But I believe the players will thrive on that and I’ll enjoy seeing how we can go and play against Scunthorpe after a week-and-a-half training together.”

Danny Holmes, meanwhile, has signed for Welsh Premier League outfit Bangor City after turning down a new contract with the Minstermen. Ex-City midfielder Alex Lawless has also moved to National League new boys Leyton Orient following his release from Yeovil.

Elsewhere, City have been drawn at home to Evo-Stik Northern Premier League first division neighbours Tadcaster Albion in the preliminary round of the FA Youth Cup, with ties due to take place during the week commencing September 4.

The winners will host either Ossett Town or Harrogate Town in the next round during the week commencing September 18.
