MALTON & Norton Golf Club ace David Hague finished tied in 38th place at the Chiberta Grand Prix in France.

Hague, 20, was one of three amateur English players chosen to represent their country at the event, which was won by Spaniard Adrian Mata Alsdorf, who shot an excellent 18 under-par round.

North Yorkshire's Hague was among the early pacesetters when he shot an opening two-under par round of 68, which included four birdies.

Subsequent over-par rounds of 74, 71 and 77 saw him eventually finish halfway up the 73-strong final leaderboard, with the par-four ninth hole proving Hague's nemesis with eight shots dropped there during the four days.

Devon's Jake Burnage, 22, was the top English player, finishing joint-tenth and the pair will again be joined by Cheshire's Josh McMahon at this week's Biarritz Cup.

Hague has previously won the Lagonda Trophy and finished runner-up in the West of England Championship.

He also tied eighth in the Brabazon Trophy and, earlier in the season, tied sixth in the Hampshire Salver.

Elsewhere, Malton & Norton's junior team put on a fantastic display of golf to win the Yorkshire Junior Team Championship, held at Sandburn Hall.

The team, comprising of Josh Stead, Christina Rumbelow and Poppy Rudd, with Lewis Stead as reserve, scored a combined team total of 80 points, beating Bradford Union's Bingley St Ives and Burley Wood, of the Sheffield Union, by three points.

Rudd also made it a double celebration by winning the individual competition with a brilliant score of 42 points.

The team have now qualified for the English County Finals to be held at Woodall Spa Golf Club in Lincolnshire from August 13-15.
