A GARDEN shed in York was badly damaged by fire last night.

Firefighters were called to Kensington Street, near the Racecourse, at 11.10pm, where a brick built shed was on fire.

A spokesman for North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "Approximately 80 per cent fire damage caused to shed and the cause of the fire is believed to have been accidental."

Crews used one hose reel, a thermal imaging camera and lighting to tackle the fire.

At about 12.45am today, firefighters were called to Eden Close in the Woodthorpe area of York, where a fence and a wheelie bin were on fire between two properties.

Crews put out the fire using one hose reel.

The fire service spokesman said: "The cause of the fire is believed to be hot barbecue coal placed in to the wheelie bin."
