TWO men have been arrested and a third is still on the run after a man was stabbed in a York street.

Police were called to Etty Avenue, in Tang Hall, shortly after midnight on Saturday and found the injured man.

North Yorkshire Police said there was a fight in the street and a man was found with stab wounds when they arrived at the scene.

He was taken to York Hospital, but it is not known how serious his injuries are.

A man arrested on suspicion of affray is now understood to have been bailed, but police have made a second arrest in connection with the incident.

Police are also still searching for another man who has been on the run since the early hours of Saturday morning.

Police cordoned off the street for most of the morning while an investigation was carried out.

Police last night (Sunday, July 9) said investigations were ongoing, but no more information was available.

One resident told The Press he heard what he thought was a car back firing early on Saturday before a number of police cars and vans arrived moments later.

The resident, who did not want to be named, said: "There was a sound like a car back firing about 1am this morning then all hell broke loose with all the sirens.

"There's a lot of blue police tape across the road and a couple of police vans and officers standing guard.

"No one is being allowed through."
