YORK's annual Ale Trail run by the city's CAMRA branch will be launched on Friday.

The event at Brew York starts at 7.30pm at the City of Ale festival that runs this weekend in the Walmgate-based brewery.

The launch continues for a mini-trail during the evening, calling in at The Waggon and Horses, The Woolpack, The Masons Arms and The Swan in Bishopgate.

The six-week pub campaign challenges beer lovers to sup a pint at 25 participating pubs across the city and surrounding villages.

York Press:

In return for collecting stamps at 18 and 24 venues there are free pints and free entry to the 9th Knavesmire York Beer and Cider Festival, from September 20-23 at the racecourse.

York CAMRA's social secretary Ken Wright, said: "The trail is very popular with 2,000 leaflets picked up from pubs and about 20 per cent come back to us with stamps. About 35 people managed to get round all 25 pubs last year.

"The Ale Trail promotes our festival at the Knavesmire and encourages people to sample excellent local beers and pubs both in and outside York."

Leaflets will be available in participating pubs.
