WHY, if Rachael Maskell was so strongly in favour of the single market, did she not back the rebels’ attempt at forcing the government to commit to it during the Queen’s Speech amendments?

A cynic would say that would have been in defiance of Jeremy Corbyn’s instructions not to and that her loyalty would be rewarded.

She also said the General Election was “reckless” then voted in favour of holding it.

By coincidence, she has now been promoted to the shadow transport department which, as her campaigning in York has demonstrated, will be hell bent on doing everything possible to slow traffic down to a crawl.

So my congratulations and a glass of socialist champagne raised to her. She has been re-elected, voted against what many people tactically backed her for and been rewarded with a front bench job.

As for those that supported her, I hope you remember these actions as it tells you far more about the person than her Twitter feed.

When the choice is between principles and career advancement she consistently chooses the latter.

If you want to see the standard of politicians in this country improve then vote for the candidate that has the best talent, ability and sincerity rather than voting for the party.

The democratic process requires us to choose our representatives, don’t blame them when you make poor choices simply because of what coloured badge they wore.
