NO, I don’t believe William Moore (Letters, June 24) when he says that the Tories flocked to vote Labour.

If he takes the time to study the results, he will find that the Tories received 5.5 per cent more of the vote than they did in 2015, received nearly a million more votes than Labour and finished with 56 more seats than Labour.

If Mr Moore is honest with himself he will know that the improvement in the Labour vote since 2015 was predominantly because the younger voter turned out in their thousands, bribed by the promise of the abolition of tuition fees (first introduced by a Labour government).

To pay for this, John McDonald would use some of the “goodies” from the mythical cookie jar which is under the magic money tree.

If university students want cheaper education, it’s staring them in the face in the form of the Open University, which is far less expensive, but requires hard work and discipline, and not a lot of time for going down the pub, or protesting.
