THE second Millennium Fields Fair will offer fun activities, music and an opportunity to air views about how Fishergate ward funding should be spent.

Launched last year by then Lord Mayor Cllr Dave Taylor, the fair is due to take place this Sunday afternoon from 1pm -5pm on the field next to the Millennium Bridge.

Organiser Cllr Andy D'Agorne said: "Everyone is welcome but especially people who live in the area or regularly enjoy walking and cycling beside the river. We invite families to relax, enjoy some free activities and have a picnic.

"We will use the opportunity to invite residents to suggest priorities for spending ward money this year, so please come to relax and share any bright ideas you have for improving our neighbourhood. It is important that we hear what local people have to say and want to engage them in what is happening in their area.

"We also aim to promote voluntary and community groups and those that look after the environment.

"And Claire Taylor, the Community Involvement Officer will invite people to share ideas for ward funding."

There will be children's activities including a climbing wall and treasure hunt and music from local bands including Bull, Sweet Berry Elixer, Simon Bolly, Cynthia Headface and Lunabai.

Police officers will attend to provide free security tagging for bikes and Cycle Heaven will be offering cycling advice. Refreshments will be available from Hallow Mallow.

The event is being funded by the Fishergate ward committee to benefit all residents in the ward and help to promote the work of local voluntary groups such as Friends of New Walk, Friends of Danesmead Wood, Friends of Fenby Field and YUMI (York Unifying Multicultural Initiative).

The event is in the field next to Millennium Bridge (Fishergate side, end of Maple Grove).
