WHACKY racers are gearing up to take part in an action-packed event, when an East Yorkshire town hosts an adrenalin-fuelled soapbox challenge.

Weighton's Whacky Races, organised by The Rotary Club and Market Weighton Young Farmers, will take place in Market Weighton, on July 16.

Around 40 teams will be competing in the Whacky Races event on the morning of the Market Weighton Community Day 2017, from 8am to 1pm.

Two East Yorkshire family businesses are teaming up to enter the soapbox race.

Tibthorpe-based specialist beef business The Yorkshire Wagyu Company and Merlin International, a vehicle and motorsport garage based in Huggate, are linked through the daughter of the owners of Merlin, Katie Milner, who is sponsored by The Yorkshire Wagyu Company for her circuit racing.

Junior Saloon Car Champion Katie will drive the soapbox, which will be built by her dad, former rally driver, Jonny Milner and her co-driver will be The Yorkshire Wagyu Company's chef, Nick Dawson.

Plans for a Wagyu bull soapbox are underway and the team will be named the Wagyu Wizards, said Jonathan Shepherd, co-owner of The Yorkshire Wagyu Company.

Entry to the race is free for spectators.
