SINGERS with The Norwegian Seamen Choir gave an impromptu performance outside the Jorvik Viking Centre during a tour of the UK's Viking sites.
“If you were to go back in time over 1,000 years ago to Viking-age Coppergate you would find that it was a community more tied to the river than it is today," said Sarah Maltby, director of attractions for York Archaeological Trust. Jorvik's parent charity.
"So it is great we can continue to celebrate the rich Scandinavian naval tradition with members of the Norwegian Seamen Choir outside Jorvik.”
Choir member Odd Jan Svensson, said: “The Norwegian Seamen Choir celebrates the naval tradition, bringing pleasure and helping to conserve and raise the centuries-old traditional shanties and songs of the sea. We enjoyed visiting Jorvik to explore our forbears’ impact on the city as well as performing for visitors.”
