A RETAIL giant has announced it will close a York Simply Food shop on July 8.

Marks and Spencer is to shut its shop at Monks Cross and move its 30 staff to other shops.

The closure follows a period of consultation and is one of five across the country.

York Press:

Andrew Crooks, Head of Region at Marks and Spencer, said: "The decision to close the store has not been taken lightly.

"We will continue to offer our customers the very best of Marks and Spencer at our nearby Vangarde store and in the city centre.

"The team has been fantastic throughout the consultation and I'm pleased they are staying with us and our nearby stores will gain their knowledge, expertise and customer service."

Other nearby stores include M&S in Parliament Street and the M&S Outlet store at York Designer Outlet.
