ROADWORKS are to be extended in the Clarence Street area of York.
Work has been taking place since June 5 to resurface the road and footpaths at Clarence Street, and to install new traffic lights and pedestrian crossings.
The initial plan was to close the road between 8pm and 6am on the nights of July 3 to 5, to allow resurfacing between the York St John University access road and the northern end of Gillygate.
However, City of York Council says it expects Clarence Street to be closed for an extra two nights, on July 6 and 7.
In addition, Gillygate and Lord Mayor’s Walk will also be closed from 8pm to 6am, July 3 to 7 while resurfacing is carried out.
A spokesman for City of York Council said the road closures are to ensure that the works can be carried out safely.
He added: “An alternative route for diverted traffic will be signed during the works period.
“Traffic signs/barriers will indicate the extent of the prohibitions.”
