HORSE RIDERS will be setting off on an annual ride for charity this weekend.

The parkland and woods of Helmsley’s Duncombe Park will be the setting for the ride today to raise funds for Ryedale Special Families.

The ride has been organised by Ride Yorkshire and there are longer and shorter route lengths to suit the preferences of different riders.

“We’ve been organising charity rides for Ryedale Special Families for several years now,” said Janet Cochrane, director of Ride Yorkshire. “We’re delighted to have permission this year to ride in Duncombe Park.”

McClarrons, the insurance broker based in Malton, is sponsoring the rosettes for the ride, while members of the Helmsley and District Rotary and supporters of Ride Yorkshire will be on hand to help with stewarding.

Refreshments after the event will be provided by the Owl House Café, located at the National Centre for Birds of Prey at Duncombe Park.

Rob Davies, fundraising co-ordinator for RSF, said: “We’re delighted that Ride Yorkshire are supporting us once again with this Fun Ride.

“A massive thank you from all at Ryedale Special Families.

“Huge thanks also to Duncombe Park for allowing us to use their beautiful location for the first time.

“We’re expecting at least double the number of riders compared to last year and, finally, thanks to McClarrons Insurance for their generous sponsorship.”

There are nine-mile and 13-mile route options, with the longer route also including a loop past Rievaulx Abbey.

Riders will set off in their own time and ride round a waymarked course.
