YORK’S Labour MP has branded the Queen’s Speech “unbelievably thin” and accused the Government of failing to address crises in the country.
Rachael Maskell, MP for York Central, spoke in the Commons late on Wednesday, after the Queen’s Speech set out the Conservatives’ plan for government in the next two years.
She said the address tried to “save a Government in crisis” but did not face up to problems in the country.
Later she added: “The Queen’s Speech is unbelievably thin; this is a two-year programme that only focuses on a hard and damaging Brexit and offers no solutions to the very issues that people across York raised throughout the election – the housing crisis, the NHS crisis, the loss of good jobs, or the threats to our environment.”
Even after the clear message of the election, she said the Government cannot form a cohesive agenda, and said she was determined to hold them to account on public safety, national security, and air quality.
