THE skilled gardeners at a nursery have created hanging baskets, tubs and planters to give a colourful boost to a village near York.

Brunswick Organic Nursery in Bishopthorpe provides work and training to people with learning disabilities.

Local York councillor John Galvin used his ward budget to ask it to provide flowers and plants for the village, and also plant 50 fruit trees around the ward.

He said three of the four planters were planted with vegetables and herbs which were available to residents to help themselves to as part of ‘Edible Bishopthorpe.’

He said: “The team at Brunswick have made a huge difference to the look of the village with hanging baskets, tubs and of course the four large planters by the library.”

Geoff Freeston, from the nursery, said the support was very much appreciated, as it gave opportunity to demonstrate its gardeners’ skills.
