TEAMS of volunteers have lent their support to three charities in the York area.

Staff from SES Engineering Services (SES), a national engineering specialist, chose York Carers Centre, The Conservation Volunteers and Restore to benefit from their efforts.

SES’ volunteers converted and renovated an under-used office at York Carers Centre to create a quiet space for staff to work and carers to deliver one-to-one sessions with their clients.

The centre provides support for carers throughout York, who are aged from eight to 25.

Working with The Conservation Volunteers, an organisation which supports conservation activities, more than 25 SES employees also braved inclement weather to dig out paths, lay foundation matting and barrow more than 55 tonnes of limestone gravel to create a woodland walk, on a stretch of the River Foss, close to Monks Cross Shopping Centre.

Then, working on behalf of Restore, a charity set up to provide homes and support for people in York who would otherwise be homeless, the volunteers transformed a resident’s garden to create a useable outdoor space and a place to relax.

York Carers Centre’s office co-ordinator, Sarah Lewis, said: “SES employees have offered their services once again to the Centre during their annual ‘Reshaping Tomorrow’ week, they have extended on their hard work of last year and given an underused room a new lease of life, increasing the Centre’s capacity to provide confidential one-to-one support for carers and added flexibility to the staff for quiet working.

“This transformation adds significant benefit to increasing the number of carers supported by the Centre, and also provides a further extension to the professional image SES helped us to achieve when they worked for us last year. We are extremely thankful for this continued support.”

These volunteer projects form part of the business’ ‘Reshaping Tomorrow’ week, with employees donating their time to help good causes.
