THUNDERSTORMS may hit York today, with a risk of localised flooding and power cuts, the Met Office has warned.
Forecasters have issued a 'yellow' advance warning for York and North Yorkshire, saying heavy showers and thunderstorms may break out from late morning through to late afternoon.
They say many places will miss the storms, but where they do occur there is a risk of sudden localised flooding of homes and businesses as well as disruption to power supplies due to lightning strike.
A similar warning was issued yesterday but York avoided any thunderstorm, with just a short heavy shower yesterday evening.
