AFTER all the hue and cry of the General Election, I read a recent announcement in The Press that demolition work on a Ryedale country house has been halted for several months because of bats roosting in the attic.
It would appear that nature decides our destiny.
However, on a bats in the belfry scenario, it has been reported that the European Parliament intends to hand us a £58 million bill to knock down their headquarters in Brussels and build an alternative, the current home having only been used for 24 years at a cost of £880 million.
When one considers that our own Parliament is in need of urgent repairs to prevent this historic building sinking into oblivion, £58 million would go some way to preserving our heritage.
I think there is a strong case for the bats to be deported to Brussels to save money.
