A CAR caught fire after crashing into the central reservation of the A1 in North Yorkshire.

It smashed into the central reservation, then veered off the road and onto the A6055, North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said.

The collision happened near Leeming yesterday.

The fire service was called to the collision at about 8.30pm.

The driver is believed to have suffered minor injuries.

A spokesman for the fire service said: "The only occupant of the vehicle was out of the vehicle on arrival of the fire service.

"Crews used two breathing apparatus, one hose reel and small tools to extinguish the vehicle, which set on fire shortly after the impact."
