YORK and North Yorkshire are at risk of thunderstorms later today, with a chance of hail, gusty winds, and lightning.
The Met Office has issued a 'yellow' warning that isolated thunderstorms may develop from late afternoon, which could potentially turn severe.
There may be torrential downpours, resulting in some disruption and sudden localised flooding of transport routes, homes and businesses, and lightning may also temporarily disrupt power supplies.
The risk of storms continues through the evening and into the night, although the forecasters stress that many places are likely to see no sign of rain.
Temperatures will be up again in York today, with a maximum of 23C expected.
