ALMOST 200 people visited York Mosque when it hosted a children’s art competition and exhibition, aimed at celebrating York as a City of Sanctuary and Human Rights City.
About 90 entries were submitted to the competition from children across the city including the mosque’s after school club, Osbaldwick and Murton Scouts and Refugee Action York.
Prizes for the top three from three age categories were presented by the Lord Mayor of York, Cllr Barbara Boyce, who was also a member of the judging panel.
“We were delighted by the outstanding level of detail and thought provoking messages from the artwork,” said Mehboob Surve, one of the organisers, adding that remembrance was made to murdered MP Jo Cox by the Imam Abid Salik.
Winning artwork will be displayed at the Amnesty shop in Goodramgate.
