A MUSICAL legend and five-time Oscar winner has been honoured with a blue plaque in York.
John Barry - who composed music for Zulu, Midnight Cowboy, Dances With Wolves and a series of James Bond films - was born on November 3, 1933, in Holgate Nursing Home, and lived in Hull Road before moving to Fulford House - which is now the York Pavilion Hotel. Barry, who died in 2011, attended the Bar Convent school and then St Peter’s.
The plaque was revealed at the hotel yesterday, with Mr Barry’s son, Jon Patrick Barry, unveiling the honour. A plaque will also be unveiled tomorrow, in memory of Edna Annie Crichton - the city’s first woman Lord Mayor, in Clifton.
