A CHARITY golf day is being held tomorrow in memory of a young boy who died after contracting a rare blood disease.

Organised by Malton-based Ryedale Plumbers, the event will raise funds for the children’s charity Candlelighters which has supported the family of Guy Metcalfe.

Four-year-old Guy, who lived with his parents Tracey and James in Malton, was diagnosed with T-Cell leukaemia in August in 2014 and underwent intensive chemotherapy.

Guy was in remission from leukaemia, when he was diagnosed with hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (HLH) and died in October 2015.

Paul Tyler, technical director at Ryedale Plumbers, said: “My daughter went to pre-school with Guy and I got to know James and Tracey really well. They are two of the nicest people you could know and after taking part in the Great North Run and cycling back to Malton last year with James and a group of friends, I decided to take an less strenuous option and organise a golf day.”

Paul said 25 teams would be taking part in the event on Wednesday, June 21, at Malton and Norton Golf Club. A raffle is also being run with a variety of prizes.

“We asked for donations and the response has been so overwhelming that we decided to open to raffle to everyone. I would also like to thank everyone who is supporting the event. Candlelighters were such a huge support to Guy and continue to be there for James and Tracey so we hope to raise as much money in Guy’s memory as possible.”
