STAFF and pupils at a York primary school want as many people as possible to enjoy a great night of entertainment at York racecourse this weekend to help fund the refurb of their hall.

HUGE York’s very own ‘Maddest Party Band’ are playing a one-off special concert to raise money for the refurbishment of the school hall at Carr Junior School in Acomb.

The event this Friday, June 23, is in the Acomb Suite in the racecourse’s Ebor Stand and promises to be a night to remember.

Head teacher, Caroline Ryder, said: “Tickets are going quickly as HUGE is very popular.

“The band have also entertained many celebrity clients such as Alan Shearer, Cameron Diaz, Drew Barrymore, Tara Palmer-Tomkinson, Mark Durden-Smith, Tim Rice and stars of Coronation Street.

“The evening will also include a raffle with amazing prizes to include; First Class rail tickets to London, Champagne and Clarins gift vouchers, Afternoon Tea vouchers, along with many more.

“Our hall refurbishment will include new stage curtains and blackout curtains, which are needed for the many performances which our children give, so we need as many of you as possible to support this wonderful event.

“We are very grateful to Ian and the band for helping raise much-needed funds in this way.

“We are also so grateful to the immense generosity of Beckfield Lane Co-op and parents for the recent fundraising initiative for our swimming pool, which raised a massive £2,544.58 which will be wonderful in helping us maintain the air quality and humidity levels in our pool.

“Tickets for the racecourse event are priced at a very reasonable £15 , if you would like tickets, please purchase as soon as possible from the school office on York 798996.”

Doors and the bar open at 7.30pm at the racecourse event with the band taking to the stage from 9pm and it’s expected to finish at 11.15pm.

The hall work is the latest in a number of projects at the school in recent years.

The school, which was built in 1947 in Ostman Road in Acomb, has been adapted to cater for the growing demand for places.

Back in 2014 the council gave the green light to create three new classrooms to accommodate 90 extra pupils at Carr.

And in March this year, City of York Council agreed another £230,000 is going on the second phase of roof repairs at the school.
