TEMPERATURES have soared to 28C in York today - hotter than Athens, Venice and Istanbul.

With barely a cloud in sight and just a slight south-westerly breeze, it's been the hottest day of the year so far.

The 28C figure, or 82 F, was recorded at RAF Linton-on-Ouse at 4pm, and it compared with just 19C in Athens, 27C in Venice and 21C in Istanbul.

Tomorrow is expected be just as hot in York, before temperatures crash to just 19C on Tuesday.
