THE NEW Major General who has arrived in York to command a British Army division at Imphal Barracks has been awarded a CBE.

Major General Ralph Wooddisse, 47, took command of 1st United Kingdom Division arrived at the headquarters in Fulford Road last month but his previous post as the Assistant Chief of Staff in charge of all deployed operations under the command of the Permanent Joint Staff Headquarters in Middlesex is mentioned within the citation for the award.

It commends his ability to shift focus between a wide range of global operations and states he gave first class support, direction and consistency to his deployed commanders.

Another army officer has been made a CBE in recognition of his work to advance the integration of Muslims into the forces during his time as deputy Commander of 4th Infantry Brigade based at Catterick Garrison in North Yorkshire.

Colonel Mike Butterwick said he was 'completely overwhelmed' by the award but it reflected the energy the whole of the 4 Brigade team put into making a difference in this vital area.

A man who is currently a Platoon Sergeant at the Army’s flagship training establishment for sixteen-year-olds - the Army Foundation College in Harrogate - has been made an MBE.

Sergeant Andrew Harrison, 36, a Communications and Information Systems specialist with the Corps of Royal Engineers, has supported county, regional and national charities over the past two decades.
