THE woman who ran York's 50+ Festival for 12 years and York International Women's Week for nine has been awarded the MBE.

Sus Lister receives the honour for services to equality, diversity and the arts in Yorkshire.

She said she had been a member of the York Older People's Assembly since 2002, under whose umbrella she launched the festival for the over 50s in 2005.

She has also been involved in the York LGBT's Free To Be Me training schemes in care homes and the workplace, the Real People Theatre Company and more recently the Ageing Without Children (AWOC) movement.

Also in York, Marie Taylor, area standard bearer for the Royal Naval Association, has been awarded the BEM for services to veterans and the community in York.

The same medal goes to Richard Frank Barugh for services to the community in Easingwold,

Roger John Burnett, for services to the community in Scarborough, and Pauline Anne Sykes, for services to the community in Rawcliffe, East Yorkshire.

The Reverend Canon Anthony Michael Shepherd receives the MBE for services to the church and community in Harrogate.

Brian Leslie Dunsby. Director Yorkshire Business Market Ltd., and lately chief executive, Harrogate Chamber of Trade and Commerce has been awarded the OBE for services to business and the community in Harrogate and the same award goes to Dr Gordon Christopher Horsfield, of Brandsby, for services to young people and to charitable giving.
