MANY announcements have been made recently about the issue of new housing in and around York which seems to polarise opinion.

Everyone agrees we need affordable homes but few want them built in their area or have concerns over the increase in congestion. Both arguments are right.

The solution is simple, as I have previously written, the way to reduce the demand for housing is to stabilise the population growth and you tackle this by slashing net migration both nationally and on a local level.

New homes should be reserved for first time buyers that already live or work in the city as people moving in from outside does nothing to solve the shortage of jobs or housing already present in the area, it simply makes prices and traffic levels rise.

There also needs to be a change in spending on the roads. I recently saw speed humps in Eason View removed and the section resurfaced; a wise move and if only they had stopped there.

Several months later they then installed rubber humps instead, more expense wasted except they can be temporary removed like those in Campleshon Road.

Does this mean we can expect the Tour de Yorkshire to pass through or does Ann Reid have another wedding planned?

If the council wants to burn money on the roads, then please, save up for a dual carriageway on the outer ring road.
